EPD (Electrical Pulse Discharge) System for Sludge Treatment

The EPD system, based on electric pulse discharges technology, is used in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) mostly located in residential areas for the treatment of sludge, preferably activated sludge (WAS). This process takes place in the primary stage of water treatment, after thickening and before anaerobic digestion, where wastewater solids are allowed to settle, and organic residues and other contaminating elements are removed from the obtained sludge.

This system significantly improves digestion activity, as evidenced by the following benefits:

  • A 40% reduction in the total digestion time of the process.

  • An 45% increase in the capacity of the WWTP (wastewater treatment plant).

  • An increase in biogas production by 30%

  • A reduction in the volume of evacuated sludge by 20%

  • Eliminates bad odors produced by current systems

  • Decreases dramatically the CO2 emissions

  • Optional conversion of Class B to Class A sludge.

The efficiency and ease of installation of the WADIS EPD system allows for the improvement of existing wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) by increasing the capacity of digesters without the need for significant additional infrastructure investment. Additionally, the EPD system is installed in the same plant space, meaning that no additional area or new digesters are required, maintaining the use of existing digesters.

In conclusion, the EPD (Electric Pulse Discharge system) is an efficient solution for sludge treatment in municipal wastewater treatment plants that allows increasing the digester capacity, reducing the volume and improving the quality of evacuated sludge.

*Additionally, (by) incorporating a small WADIS process after the digester, all the solids evacuated from the digester can be converted into Class A solids, which is a high-quality material for agricultural soil.

EPDA (Electrical Pulse Discharge Air) System for Wastewater Disinfection

The EPDA system utilizes innovative technology that combines high-voltage and high frequency pulses discharge with an air bubble flow to treat and disinfect secondary or tertiary effluents, enabling their reuse. This process takes place in the secondary stage of wastewater treatment, where the water still contains some solid materials and has some turbidity, requiring additional purification for complete treatment and reuse. Typically, this is done by disinfecting the effluent with chlorine (which is prohibited), ultraviolet light, or ozone. EPDA system can replace these methods and obtain a greater quantity of better-quality water in an environmentally friendly manner, without the need to utilize chemical products or others.

The main advantages of this system are:

  • It is not sensitive to the turbidity and opacity of wastewater, unlike UV rays.

  • It achieves a high bacterial reduction in logarithmic terms (2 to 7 logarithmic scale units).

  • It is highly effective against all types of microorganisms.

  • It does not produce BDPs (disinfection by-products).

This system is especially useful for treating and disinfecting various industrial wastewater, which are a serious environmental problem. In addition, increasing pollution problems and the complexity of removing different contaminants from water, which hinders their treatment, coupled with the growing water demands and the increasing need to reuse water, require an improved treatment of wastewater.

WADIS water disinfection technology treats these waters and leaves them free of bacteria, viruses, fecal matter, pathogens in general, etc., resulting in excellent disinfected water for agricultural irrigation.

In summary, the EPDA system is an environmentally friendly and highly effective solution for the treatment and disinfection of wastewater, in municipal, industrial and others, for its reusing

*Additionally by adding another WADIS technological process (subsequent to this), it is possible to obtain drinking water.

EPO (Electrical Pulse Oxidation) System for Micropollutant Reduction and Disinfection

The EPO system utilizes a disruptive high-voltage and high frequency electrical pulses oxidation process (EPOP) for the treatment and disinfection of wastewater from various industries or other processes that utilize water that contain microcontaminants, with the aim of being able to eliminate them and reuse the water. This system carries out a superior, highly efficient, and high-performance oxidation process, achieving the decomposition of organic matter and other difficult-to-eliminate contaminants, such as hormones, antibiotics, heavy metals, radioactive materials, among others. In this way, the present microcontaminants are efficiently eliminated, thus contributing to the elimination of dangerous polluting elements in different processes.

This system has the following advantages:

  • It is easy to install and requires minimal maintenance.

  • It does not require large contact tanks for further treatment / post-treatment, unlike ozonation.

  • It produces a minimal amount of disinfection by-products (DBP).

This system is highly efficient in the treatment and disinfection of various types of industrial wastewater, including those prevalent in the mining, food and beverage, chemical, hospital, pharmaceutical, aquaculture, paint, and other industries.

WADIS' Electrical Pulse Oxidation (EPO) system achieves better and faster results than other available AOP systems in the market, with greater disinfection of difficult-to-remove elements, achieving over 92% decomposition of microcontaminants, being superior to other alternatives and oxidation processes available.
